The Rockport Cultural Arts District is hosting The Del Mar Hotel Exhibit at the Railroad Depot Museum through October 27th. The Exhibit features 100 year old artifacts which haven’t been publicly displayed in over 100 years. An Exhibit reception was held Saturday, July 8th with speaker Janie White, the great granddaughter of the Hotel’s previous owner, Simon Sorenson.
The Artifacts are on loan from the Aransas County Historical Society. The Del Mar Hotel was the grandest Rockport hotel in its day. Built in 1889, the wooden structure was the largest of its kind. Its footprint took up an entire City block, where Daily Grind, John Martell Photography, Moon Over Water Gallery, and Rowdy Maui are located today. Interestingly, building the Del Mar Hotel was a requirement for the railroad to be extended from Gregory to Rockport.
Join us at the Rockport Railroad Depot Museum, 105 S. Magnolia Street, in downtown Rockport. The Museum is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
