The Rockport Cultural Arts District (RCAD) has collaborated with and sponsored the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Class 2020, in the very first ever Youth Leadership class project, The Underwater Sea Life Mural.   This initiative was originally driven by RCAD Board member Pam Heard in 2019.  RCAD is deeply appreciative for this opportunity which was made possible by the generosity of The Margaret Sue Rust Foundation.

The mural was originally planned to be personally painted by the youth participating in the class, however, COVID19 forced a greater level of creativity getting this project completed.

Each youth produced an individual rendering of their vision of underwater sea life, which RCAD Board Member and Artist Audrianna Rios compiled into a single mural rendering.   Local painter, Matt Loveless, of Loveless and Company Signs, captured the rendering when he painted the mural.    Each of the Youth’s names will be displayed next to the mural as a reminder of their contribution to the community and their achievement in graduating from the Leadership Class.

RCAD and the Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Class dedicated the mural Saturday, September 26th.   Public art encourages economic growth by attracting tourists and creating a vibrant and creative community.   This is one more successful collaboration of RCAD’s promotion of the arts and an initiative that inspires community spirit and cohesiveness.
